TGIFF! Thank Goodness It’s Fuzzy Friday!!! This week has been quite the week for weather all over the United States, from droughts all over the Midwest and the South to the extreme heat waves followed by an epic storm of hail and lightening here in NYC, I think it’s safe to say that for most of us, this Fuzzy Friday could not come soon enough! This week’s Fuzzy Friday Feature comes from the land of, “They’re Just Like Us” which includes three fuzzy friends making headlines in the news for standing out for their love of activities that are often considered more human then fuzzy friendly.
Although you can see some pretty strange stuff in Southern California, even local residents were a little surprised at what they saw “Hanging Ten” in San Onofre State Beach last week. Meet Pismo and
Goatee, two surfers who can often be seen catching a wave in San Onofre, and although their surfing skills are pretty impressive what sets them apart from the rest of their fellow beach-goers is that they are, well, goats. That’s right goats, a nanny goat and billy goat to be exact, who were introduced to surfing when their owner, Dana McGregor, decided that his love of surfing may be something his four legged friends would also enjoy. In an interview with the Associated Press McGregor said, “ I love surfing so I figured the goats would like surfing,” and continued to say that when he first taught Goatee and Pismo to surf together, “they did a pretty good job. They caught the first wave and it was pretty good.” Although McGregor now shares his love of surfing with Goatee and Pismo according to the Huffington Post, he originally got Goatee to, “eat unwanted foliage on his property,” and shortly after began bringing the little leaf eater to the beach with him. After Pismo was born in March, McGregor decided to bring him along and soon the fantastically fuzzy and dynamic duo were wowing fellow beach-goers with their solid surfing skills.
Our second Fuzzy Friday Feature comes to us all the way from West Ashley, South Carolina where a
squirrel named Zipper is turning heads not only for her love of riding motorcycles but also for her ‘Bad to the Bone” attitude. Her owner, Suki Mixon according to WCSC, got Zipper at a very young age and has been taking Zipper along for rides since she was a baby. With her teeny-tiny helmet and larger then life attitude, this squirrel is one fearless little rider and according to Mixon, “when a motorcycle pulls up anywhere, she (Zipper) perks up….thinks it’s her’s…and she’ll fight over it” which Mixon admits can be a problem from time to time. The riding rodent has been hitting the road now with Mixon for almost 5 years and with the average lifespan of a squirrel being about 20 years, this furry friend will be hitting the road, perched on a pillow behind the windshield of Mixon’s ride, for years to come.
Congratulations Goatee, Pismo, and Zipper, with your far-out fuzzy love of surfing and fierce, furry favor of life in the fast lane, you made the perfect picks for this weeks Fuzzy Friday Feature!! Be sure to check out Goatee and Pismo in action in the video below and I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!
