Walking the Brooklyn Bridge

On Mothers Day this past May, my mother decided she wanted to spend the afternoon with me and her husband walking the Brooklyn Bridge.  Although I have been living in New York City for almost 15 years, I ashamedly admit that until that day I had yet to walk over the infamous bridge myself.  The bridge, completed in 1883, is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States and spans 1,595.5 feet connecting Manhattan with Brooklyn over the East River.  As luck would have it Mothers Day turned out to be a beautiful and sunny day here in NYC, perfect weather for our little Brooklyn Bridge Adventure.  After crossing the bridge into Brooklyn, we stopped at the infamous Grimaldi’s Pizza located just under the bridge in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) for some delectable pizza before making our way back over the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan.  Here are some pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge that I took hoping to share them with you:)  Enjoy!

Statues of John Roebling, his son Washington Roebling and Washington’s wife Emily who were chiefly responsible for the design and construction of the Brooklyn Bridge.
